NFL Planner Stickers

May 1, 2018
If you're reading this, you've most likely purchased a set of my NFL 2018 Season Schedule stickers for your favorite team from my Etsy store.... thank you again for your purchase! If you have no idea what I'm talking about and you or someone you know is a big NFL fan, check them out in my Etsy store Heart of Texas Teacher!

Wondering what to do with those files in the zip file you downloaded after purchasing? I'm here to help! Just follow the simple steps below and you'll be planning out the season in no time.

(Disclaimer: The following tutorial is for Silhouette Studio Basic Edition, therefore I'm using the PNG file in the examples. I don't have Designer Edition so I can't show you how the PDF would work, but I'm pretty sure the steps are basically the same. You can always hand cut the stickers as well, a 3/8" hand held circle cutter would work for the circles.)

First, print the PNG file on sticker paper. Make sure you select Scale to Fit, Fit Entire Paper (on a Mac, not quite sure what the wording is on a PC). If these settings aren't correct, your stickers will not be aligned correctly when you go to cut them. Place the printed stickers on the top left corner of your cutting mat and load it into your Silhouette.

Open Silhouette Design Studio. Click File, Open, and find your PNG schedule stickers file wherever you have it saved. Double click it and it will open in the software. Don't resize it as it is already the correct size. Make sure your page is 8.5 x 11 and your cutting mat is showing. Turn on the registration marks and make sure they are the same setting as below to avoid any registration errors (length .250, thickness .30 and inset .625).

Open the Trace panel. Click Select Trace Area and drag your cursor around the stickers (you can do all at one time or section by section, whichever you prefer). Turn the threshold up to 100 and click Trace Outer Edge.

It seems like nothing has happened but when you move your PNG file over you will be able to see the red cut lines that were generated by the trace. You can now delete the sticker PNG file. Make sure not to move the red cut lines even a smidge or your stickers won't cut correctly.

Go to your Cut settings and make sure the material and blade settings are correct (this will vary from user to user as different sticker papers and machines cut differently - use the settings you have found work best for you for kiss cuts). Use the Cut by Line option (only red should show up), click next and send to your machine.

Once your machine is done cutting, unload the mat and gently peel the page off of it. Personally, I went ahead and put the game stickers in my planner and trimmed the W/L stickers to keep in my sticker pouch, but this part is up to you!

I hope this tutorial helped you cut your NFL schedule stickers. Please don't hesitate to contact me through Etsy if you have any questions!

Happy planning and Go Cowboys! 😉

Holidays Around the World Blog Hop

November 9, 2015

Buongiorno everyone!!

I'm SO excited to be one of your stops on this journey around the world that we have planned for you!

In case you couldn't guess from my greeting, I'll be sharing some ideas about Christmas in Italy.

Here are some great YouTube videos you can show to your class.

I especially love the first one for the younger kiddos because it shows what Christmas in Italy is like through a child's eyes.

(I also love that the little girl speaks in Italian. This year I've been teaching my students some of the phrases I've learned in my Italian class and they love it! After I explain directions and ask if they understand, they always respond with "Capisco!" which means "I understand." in Italian. Not to toot my own horn but I'm proud of myself for sparking their interest in foreign languages.)

This one is much longer and probably better suited for the older kids but it gives a lot of great information.

This is the classic Italian story of a grumpy old woman who ends up becoming one of Italy's most beloved people. Keep reading to find a freebie that goes along with it.

After reading The Legend of Old Befana, I give my each of my students their own "broom." They are super easy to make- all you need are some Dum-Dums, brown paper bags (I just reused a grocery bag) and some sort of tie or ribbon.

Just cut a piece of the bag off, slit the bottom and a little bit of the top, wrap it around the sucker and tie it. Presto! You have La Befana's broom!

I've also created this mini-unit that has a few fun activities to supplement your Holidays Around the World unit. It includes a reader, four sentence building cut and pastes, write the room, two differentiated writing papers and a word search. Click the picture to get yours!

Here's what you get in the freebie:

  • Two differentiated story sequencing pages (one for the littles who can just draw pictures and one for more advanced who can write).
  • Two differentiated "My favorite part" writing prompt pages (one with a sentence starter and one without).
  • Two grammar sorts (nouns/adjectives and singular/plural).

Click the picture to download your freebie!

I hope you had un grande momento (a great time) in Italy! You have many other destinations waiting for you though so you must be on your way. Check out all the other countries that are waiting for you!

We've also included a FREE passport for you to use in addition to all the great materials you've found along your journey. Click the passport below to grab the Italy page and make sure to download each passport page from the other countries. You can find the passport cover HERE

SNAP! My School Pictures {Linky}

November 3, 2015
I'm linking up with my bloggy BFF Stephanie from Mrs. D's Corner for this fun little linky.

First of all, I HATE having my picture taken. Just hate it. Most of the time I make silly faces when I take pictures and needless to say, I can't really do that in school pictures (although, I may do just that next year- may even start a trend).

We haven't gotten this year's photos back yet so I'll share a couple from past years.

(PS- I'm not brave enough to share grade school pictures like Stephanie did. I'll spare you the horror. LOL.)

This was last year...

And 2012-2013... (sorry for all the glare)

Your turn! Go link up with Stephanie and share your school pics! Happy Tuesday everyone!

Books Bloggers Love {October Edition}

September 10, 2015

Welcome to the October edition of Books Bloggers Love! Here's a little preview of all the books my blogger friends have written about this month.

I just want to say admit that I might have chosen this book partly because the spider is saying "howdy." I mean, seriously y'all. My Texan heart was won before I even opened the cover!

I love this book for so many reasons. I like that it's an informational text about spiders but doesn't look like the typical expository kind. My students always struggle with identifying texts that look like they would be fiction but are actually non-fiction.

This will be a great book to use in writer's workshop as well. It is full of speech bubbles and large fonts, something I want to encourage my students to use more of in their writing this year.

Can I be honest here for a sec? You know when you go to a kid's movie and the writers throw in a line here and there that the kids laugh at but have no idea what they really mean because it was really meant for the adults in the audience? (< --- Sorry for that insanely long run on sentence.) This book has a couple moments like that in here that made me giggle. Teachers need to have a little fun too, right??

Before you head off to read more of the posts, I want to let everyone know that this is the last month for me in the Books Bloggers Love linky. I have some personal goals outside of teaching I will be spending my free time pursuing. I will certainly still be supporting these wonderful ladies every month (and you'll just love my replacement- but you'll have to read the November editions to find out who it is!).

B2S Survival Kit Exchange

August 24, 2015

This summer, a group of teacher-bloggers got together to pair up and spread some Back to School love all around the country. After learning a little about our partner and their interests, we shopped and shipped!

I was paired with Gina from Miss. Peluso's Kindergarten (who has an adorable little blog that you should check out).

Look at the goodies Gina sent! I loved that everything she sent was an absolute necessity for the classroom- and yes, Sour Patch Kids and Reese's Mini's ARE necessities!

She even sent a little surprise for Chip! We have gotten lots of use out of this new toy!

I had so much fun shopping for Gina. She posted this on IG when she got her kit- she may have cried when she opened her box but I cried after reading this. It's a great feeling knowing you've brightened someone's day a little bit!

A big {virtual} hug and thanks to everyone who participated!
